Maintenance Supervisor: Job Description [Updated for 2024]
We are currently seeking a Maintenance Supervisor to join our team in the Facilities Services industry. As a supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the maintenance department and ensuring that the facility is maintained in a safe and efficient manner. This role requires a strong understanding of mechanical systems, excellent problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead a team.
Responsibilities
- Manage a team of maintenance technicians and coordinate their activities to ensure timely completion of tasks
- Develop and implement preventative maintenance programs to minimize equipment downtime and maximize operational efficiency
- Conduct regular inspections of facilities and equipment to identify potential issues and address them proactively
- Respond to maintenance requests and prioritize tasks based on urgency and importance
- Coordinate with external contractors and vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance projects
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, including work orders, equipment maintenance logs, and inventory levels
- Train and mentor maintenance staff on proper procedures, safety protocols, and equipment operation
- Monitor and enforce compliance with safety regulations and company policies
- Collaborate with other departments to identify and implement process improvements and cost-saving initiatives
- Stay up-to-date with the latest advancements in maintenance techniques and technologies
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification or associate degree in a related field is preferred
- Proven experience in a maintenance role, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity
- Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems
- Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage resources and meet deadlines
- Proficient in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
- Valid driver's license and clean driving record
- Physical stamina and ability to lift heavy objects
- Knowledge of applicable safety regulations and ability to enforce compliance
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
